Forbidden Parliament

Wow! Shocker! PM Lee actually defends DPM Wong Kang Seng for not fulfilling his duties and doing a sucky job at being Minister for Home Affairs AND not even taking full responsibility for it. Wow. That’s so amazing. Assuring, of course.

Hey, how’s about next time you PAP-Men bring along all of JI and Al-Qaeda, give’em some 5-star treatment at the Shangri-La down at Whitley and you know, just let’em loose for kicks and blame it all on us again. That should be fun. Then at least we have more to worry about instead of just the non-stop inflation that’s burning through bigger than a black hole in our pockets! ‘Cause everybody knows worrying about just one thing is a bitch, huh!

And wasn’t it just so cute that they reaffirmed their backing with a poll, done nicely with neat graphics to show just how most of “the public” don’t really think it’s the four-eyed nerd’s fault or at least, be shameful enough to take full responsibility and step down for someone to do a better job.

But hey, once again, once the Forbidden Parliament have made their stand, nobody can change anything, except of course if Rob Minkoff can lend us Jackie Chan and Jet Li after he’s done using them for promoting his latest movie.

The Reliably Unreliable Government

When reading an article (Straits Times, Saturday, April 4, 2008 – Prime pg.3) highlighting Mas Selamat’s escape and linking it to complacency, I can’t help but voice out the upsetting unfairness and…let’s face it…bullshit of the government.

Here is the golden response from MM Lee in an email interview:
“The people on the whole believed that the Government will take care of all security matters. But no government can be 100 percent on the ball 100 percent of the time. A government needs the active support and cooperation of the people.”

That’s what he said. And yet, how is it that the people is not rewarded the same way the government is? If indeed it is a collaborative effort to ensure the safety and security of this nation, and more so in the part of the people to be vigilant at all times, then why have the government so proudly raised their salaries without the people’s validation or approval and pat themselves on the back for doing such a good job? Since this Mas Selamat affair is a big deal and is a major compromise of Singapore’s security, then it’s only right and fair that the government decrease their ridiculous salaries for doing a shitty job. Don’t just blame it on the custodians. Ever since this whole mess started, we Singaporeans have yet to see any politician or state figure or high-ranking uniformed personnel stepping down because they’ve failed to re-apprehend Mas Selamat in a country that’s slightly over 647 sq km, where almost all exits have been tightly sealed.

Seriously, after all the claims of always delivering to the people and even having the cheek to act as consultant to countries like Russia when the government can’t even find one fugitive on this tiny island, is it still fair for the people? Is it still fair that the people have to tolerate the government’s high salaries when we are stuck with more taxes and 7% GST? Most importantly, is it still fair that after all the work the people have done, the government enjoys the fruits of our labor and let us fend for ourselves and ask we help them in cleaning up their mess, but when it comes to the glory, we have no say in it?

Seriously, is it fair?

Secret Invasion Issue #1 Review

Here it is! The Skrulls are here…or have been here. Point is, they’re here and the Marvel Universe is going to get a real whack from this major event.

First of, I’m very pleased with the first issue. A lot was happening and I kept flipping the back pages to check whether it’s actually one issue ’cause it felt like two. So a lot happened and many of which I didn’t see coming. Well, some I did…like Jarvis being a Skrull, Hank Pym being a Skrull (no way a Skrull would ever volunteer to be Reed Richards ’cause he’s too boring to imitate) and the Avengers going back to the Savage Land ’cause Bendis has been saying that to figure out when the Skrull infiltration began, go back to when New Avengers came out, so logically, they would go back to where their first mission led them to.

Okay, so Captain Marvel’s nowa confirmed Skrull and Marvel Boy could succeed as the new Captain Marvel. I totally didn’t see coming the Bronze Age heroes coming out from the Skrull ship and I believe many people have debated about this, but personally, I would be pissed if all this while, we’ve been reading about fake heroes while the real heroes were in space trying to figure their way home. I hope Bendis is not doing another “One More Day”. That shit got me dropping all my Spider-Man titles. That was distasteful and disrespectful to the fans. Shame on you, Joe Q (or Joe Skrull, I dunno).

I really liked the theory of one comic book store owner, who said he believed Sue Richards aka Invisble Woman, has been a Skrull since Civil War ’cause of how she left her two kids just like that and no mother would do that. That is so true. But if that’s the case, remembering Sue’s letter before she left, that would mean Reed made “love” to a Skrull imposter. Same goes for Medusa.

Well, fake-spouse sex aside, I’m really looking forward to seeing where this is all heading. I hope Bendis is gonna give us one hell of a ride and give us Marvelfans a climax worth waiting ’cause let’s face it, recent major arcs’ climaxes have been disappointing. And since Secret Invasion is the ultimate conclusion of the Avengers Disassembled (2004) saga, this is seriously the one that’s gonna reshape the Marvel Universe.

‘Till next time!
